EyePoint plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 53% following a setback in a late-stage study of its potential eye-disease treatment DURAVYU. The company announced the board-approved restructuring on October 19, 2026.

Most of the reductions are expected during the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion expected in the first half of 2027, according to EyePoint's announcement.

What led to the decision

The company said its Phase 3 LUCIA study in wet age-related macular degeneration did not meet its primary non-inferiority endpoint. EyePoint plans to end its pivotal wet AMD trials early, without completing their full second year.

Development will continue, with resources focused on DURAVYU for diabetic macular edema, a different condition. The company expects pivotal Phase 3 results for that program in the fourth quarter of 2027.

What is known about the workforce changes

EyePoint estimated annualized savings of about $30 million and aggregate employee-separation-related charges of approximately $9 million. The separation-cost estimate covers the company as a whole; it does not specify individual payments.

The announcement does not break down the affected jobs by location. The company is based in Watertown, Massachusetts, but its headquarters location does not establish where all the reductions will occur. The timetable describes planned reductions, not confirmation that they have already happened.
