People Inc. announced 195 job cuts on October 29, according to a staff memo obtained by the Des Moines Register. The cuts mainly affect its New York headquarters and remote employees, with additional reductions in Des Moines, Birmingham, Seattle, Los Angeles and Bangalore, India.

What is known

Chief executive Neil Vogel said most affected employees work in print and legacy web operations. The publisher did not disclose totals for individual locations, so the overall count should not be assigned to one city.

What happens next

Human resources representatives and business leaders will meet individually with affected staff, the memo said. A common final employment date and a title-by-title breakdown were not established in the reporting.

If your job is affected

A useful starting point is the workforce service near where you live or work. IowaWORKS Des Moines offers one-to-one career assistance, résumé workshops and connections to training programs. In-person and virtual support are available.

For New York City workers, Workforce1 offers free career help, interview preparation and access to training. Services are available online, by phone and at centers across the five boroughs. These are public resources, not a company-specific assistance arrangement or a guarantee of a new job.
