Five Subway restaurants on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities area have closed under franchisee Gerold Shelton. He told Our Quad Cities News that he was giving up the locations, according to October 25 reporting by TheStreet. This is one operator’s exit, not a shutdown of the Subway chain. TheStreet
Which communities are affected
The local report identifies two Moline locations, one on 19th Avenue and another inside Walmart, along with stores in Milan, Coal Valley and Aledo. The reporting does not give a separate final-service date for each restaurant. Local report summary
A reopening is possible, not promised
Shelton said he was surrendering the locations to Subway corporate in hopes of making a reopening easier. No replacement operator or reopening date was identified in the reporting, so customers should check for a confirmed update before planning a visit. TheStreet
The sources reviewed do not establish how many people worked at these stores or whether any employees will transfer. The number of closures alone does not show how many jobs were lost. No bankruptcy filing by this franchisee was established.
